English Speakers of Other Languages Teacher - (ESOL)


 

1.Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated;2.Plan a program that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students;3.Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students;4.Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior;5.Provides guidance to new international students on matters of academic life and adapting to a new culture and environment;6.Administers criterion-referenced and diagnostic language assessment tests, homework, make-up work, etc. for the purpose of determining program eligibility and/or assisting teachers and students;7.Keeps accurate attendance records of all students in the ESL program;8.Introduces students to the basic literacy skills to include oral and visual communication, reading, writing, social and cultural competence, as well as technological skills;9.Assists students with lesson assignments (e.g., translating instructions, modifying lessons, etc.) for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts;10.Completes record keeping and clerical functions (e.g., instructional plans, student monitoring, scheduling, copying, ordering supplies, etc.) for the purpose of supporting the teacher and/or administrator in providing necessary records/materials;11.Implements instructional programs and lesson plans for the purpose of assisting the teacher in improving students academic success through a defined course of study;12.Prepares reports for classroom teachers and/or administrators;13.Administers standardized tests to ESL students;14.Attends meetings and in-service presentations and participates in state conferences and workshops for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions;15.Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior;16.Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects to communication these objectives to students;17.Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved;18.Strive to implement by instruction and action the districts philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives;19.Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required;20.Work with a team to determine disabilities of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required;21.Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities;22.Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation;23.Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner;24.Make provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms;25.Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and volunteers(s) and cooperatively with department heads, evaluated their job performance;26.Strive to maintain and improve professional competence;27.Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required;28.Other duties as assigned.
